Holiday Greetings

Holiday Greetings

Is it just me or does the holiday season seem to be expanding? As early as September 1 I saw Christmas paraphernalia in the stores and as early as November 1 I heard people wishing one another Merry Christmas. Recently I have been seeing messages on Facebook and other social media sites about the appropriateness of starting the holiday season before or after Remembrance Day, and whether to extend “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holiday” greetings. Personally, my holiday season has always started on December 1 - not for any reason in particular, it just seemed like a reasonable time to start the festivities. And because I like to enjoy my real tree into the new year the later I put it up, the longer I can keep it up! As far as holiday greetings are concerned, because I have family, friends, colleagues, and clients who celebrate Christmas, Hanukah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, and other occasions, I try to wish them the greeting for their specific celebration. They do the same for me. There are many celebrations that occur during what is often referred to as the holiday season and I enjoy learning about the beliefs, customs, and traditions associated with each of them.

Despite the visible merriment and indulgence of the holiday season there are many people who struggle, for a multitude of reasons, throughout this time of year. If you are struggling this holiday season, please reach out for support. If you know someone who is struggling this holiday season, please reach out to them. It can be a difficult time of year but it is also the time of year when people tend to be a little more kind, a little more giving, and a little more understanding. There are many ways to give back, to show your community spirit, and to make someone’s holiday season a little bit brighter. What are your favourite ways to spread holiday cheer and to help out your neighbours, community members, or strangers?

Whatever occasion you are celebrating this holiday season I hope that you feel the warmth of others around you and that your heart is filled with happiness. I would like to extend good wishes to you this holiday season and throughout the coming year. Thank you for your support of Career Designs for Life and for sharing your career development journey with me.

Wishing you a beautiful holiday season and a new year of peace and happiness,
